excellent idea. truly worth spreading. i was wondering if you can build on existing infrastructure, instead of building cities from scratch. i’m thinking of stagnant/non-performing economies that might benefit from this. for example, greece. would it work if you declare a town in greece to be a charter city and to build its broken economy? what about iceland? and new zealand? of course, you already have local ‘tenants’ there who may or may not resent newcomers. ensuring that everyone cohabits will be a slight problem, until they see that everyone benefits from this symbiotic relationship.
As a research non-profit, Charter Cities focuses on the interplay of rules, cities, and economic development. The blog covers development challenges in general, but takes a special interest in the dynamics of rules and the practical issues that arise when governments use special reform zones to give people access to better rules. We use the same comments policy as the Economix blog.
